Washington Parks and People's - Marvin Gaye Park Cleanup

Updated: Jan 26, 2019

To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr Birthday, Washington Parks and People (WPP) in conjunction with the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services (DMHHS) and numerous volunteers including Mark Bey, founder of A Cleaner Ward 7, helped to cleanup Marvin Gaye Park located in Washington DC on January 16, 2017.

History of Marvin Gaye Park

"Marvin Gaye Park is Washington’s longest municipal park, spanning 1.6 miles through the far-northeastern DC neighborhoods of Deanwood, Burville, Hillbrook, Lincoln Heights, and Northeast Boundary. This winding park was in very bad shape, largely ignored and forgotten for decades. It had become known by many as “Needle Park,” due to the extremely high level of intravenous drug use, which left thousands of discarded needles in its wake. (WPP)"

In an ongoing effort volunteers helped to pick up bags of trash including paper, discarded alcohol bottles, cans, and used needles. With only a few hours of work, the volunteers helped to improve the cleanliness of the park. But there is much more to do...

Thanks WPP and DMHHS for all your hard work!!!

Hebrew 13:16 (NIV) "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."

Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV) "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."
