Awards Program

Waikinya Clanton (Director of African American and Women's Outreach and Associate Director of the Community Engagement Democratic National Committee) welcomed the guests while they enjoyed some fellowship and networking time before the program began. Guests shared their insights and wisdoms with each other.

Founder and CEO of Walker's Legacy and Walker's Legacy Foundation Natalie Madeira Cofield addressed the guests on some of their ongoing efforts. Walker's Legacy has been advocating and meeting with the last two administrations at the White House on increasing the 5% set aside for women owned small businesses. Their efforts have led to the first research studies completed on black women, Hispanic, and Native American women owned entrepreneur-ships for the United States by the Small Business Administration. These studies have helped to create policies in order to increase funds for small businesses. The Minority Business Development Agency has created a woman specific initiative due to these efforts. "The Minority Business Development Agency is an agency in the United States Department of Commerce that promotes growth and competitiveness of the United States' minority-owned businesses, including Hispanic and Latino American, Asian Pacific American, African American, and Native American businesses."
